The Do's & Don'ts

Skin Treatments

Before any skin treatment:

1. Shower or wash your face before your appointment. Apply a moisturizer/spf50. Please do not apply make up.

2. Do not scratch your face, pick on your pimples or ingrowns. Nitpicking on your skin will cause inflammation and will therefore limit any further treatment.

3, Please do not come in with sunburnt skin, a fresh tattoo, or any open wound on the service area. Skin analysis will always be done before any treatment for the safety of both the client and aesthetician.

Aftercare:

1. Avoid putting on makeup or other facial products for at least 6 hours after your treatment.

2. Avoid picking at your skin or use abrasive skincare products like scrubs for at least 72 hours after your treatment. It is normal to experience slight redness after a facial, or itching after an extraction. It’s important to let your skin repair itself after undergoing a facial treatment. Touching your face or scrubbing your skin will worsen it.

3. Stay away from direct heat for up to 48 hours after your treatment. Direct heat can include sunbeds, saunas or hot spas. It is best to avoid suntanning on the beach right after a facial as well, as your skin is completely raw and vulnerable during this time, and may not be well-protected against the sun’s harmful UV rays.

4. Only go for one facial or skincare treatment at a time. This is crucial, regardless of the areas of your skin that are treated. Besides letting your skin breathe, setting a reasonable window of time between facial treatments of at least 48 hours is important. This can help your skin adapt to the first facial treatment and allow it to repair and heal properly before the next treatment.

5. Refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol for up to 72 hours after your treatment. The smoke from cigarettes contain particles that can clog your pores, and after a facial treatment your facial pores are almost always larger and can easily trap smoke particles. This can worsen your skin condition even if you have just had a treatment.
Similarly, alcohol contains compounds that can affect your skin and accelerate the aging process. Stay clear of harmful substances after a facial treatment and the benefits of your facial will last longer.

On top of applying the above-mentioned tips, here are some additional skincare advice that you can consider to maintain healthy-looking skin in the long run!

● Continue your skincare routine: cleanse, tone and moisturise.
● Don’t sleep with makeup on.
● Regularly hydrate yourself with 6 to 8 glasses of water per day.
● Maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

Waxing

Before:

1. Make sure your hair is long enough to remove completely from the roots – it should be at least 0.5 centimetres. If you’ve shaved the area within the last few weeks it might take a couple of waxes to get your hair into a cycle of growth that allows the most effective wax finish.

2. Do not drink alcohol or aspirin before the appointment. From what I have seen, clients tend to bleed more during the treatment when they do this.

3. For intimate waxes, if Flo unexpectedly arrives, use a fresh tampon right before the appointment. If you feel uncomfortable to proceed, please reschedule your appointment ahead of time to avoid any late cancellation fees.

4. For body and intimate waxing, please wear clean, loose clothing to avoid any clothing friction that would irritate the skin after waxing.

Aftercare:

1. Do not touch the waxed area. It will feel a little tender and might have a few welts and redness especially if it was your first time.

2. Avoid sweating or working out 24 hours after your wax. Strictly no sexual activities for 24 hours to avoid any irritation, burning sensations, and infections while your skin recovers.

3. Exfoliate two days after your wax, two days before your next wax session, and then twice a week. Moisturize always after you exfoliate.

4. Avoid chlorinated water, saunas, and sunbathing for 24 hours.

5. Space your wax sessions 4-6 weeks apart. The more you wax, the thinner the hair gets, and the easier it is to pull.

Lash extensions/ Lash lifts/ Lash Tint

Before:

1. Please do not wear eye makeup – especially mascara, as it will take more time to remove your makeup and gives less time to work on your lashes.

2. Please remove your contact lens before the appointment.

3. Try not drink coffee, tea, energy drinks for at least 2 hours prior to your appointment as caffeine can cause your eyes to flutter involuntarily.

Aftercare:

1. Avoid getting your lashes wet for the next 24 hours.

2. Avoid saunas, steamrooms, or sweating for 24 hours

3. Avoid sleeping on your face.

4. Continue properly washing your lashes. If you used any oily products including eye make up, use an oil cleanser or a make up remover. Do not use mascara on lash extensions.

5. Avoid touching or rubbing your eyelashes to avoid permanent hair loss. Be gentle.

PMU AFTERCARE:

DAY 1-10

  • A permanent makeup procedure is the equivalent of a skin-deep wound - like a scratch you might get around the house. The day of your procedure, expect a small amount of fluid, weeping or blood. Firmly blot brows with a clean gauze or slightly damp paper towel to remove lymph. Excess lymph may dry and forms scabs too early. Blotting typically only needs to be done the day of your visit.

  • Cleanse brows morning and night with mild, gentle cleanser and pat dry or allow to air dry.

  • Apply After Inked supplied with clean q-tip or clean finger on dry skin only. After Inked may be applied several times during the day, however only a THIN layer should be used at any time. You may need to apply once a day, and you many need to apply 3-4 times a day… This is dependent on your skin. A good rule of thumb is apply whenever your skin looks or feels tight and dry. (For reference of how much cream you should be using - think grain of rice.)

  • Brow area may begin to itch and appear slightly thicker in texture before taking on a flaky, dry, narrow appearance. Do not pick any of flakes, allow to fall off completely on their own.

  • After all peeling/flaking is done, color may take on a hazy, too-dull, too-light, muted appearance. We call this the “Foggy Phase”. The color will return {bloom} after healing is fully complete, typically between the 3rd and 4th week.

Keep in mind, when healing is complete, it is normal to have lighter/less saturated areas. You may lighten up to 30% the first time through.

FOR TWO WEEKS AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE:

  • Sleep only on a CLEAN PILLOWCASE.

  • Do not use active ingredient products on or around the eye/eyebrow area including, but not limited to: Retin A, Glycolic or Salicylic acid.

  • Do not use Peroxide or Neosporin on or around the area.

  • Do not Scrub or Pick treated area.

  • Avoid all vigorous exercise and strenuous activity.

  • Do not expose treated area to direct sunlight or tanning beds.

  • Avoid Facials, Steam, Saunas, Steam Rooms, Heavy Sweating (gym!!) and Long, Hot Showers.

  • Avoid Swimming in Lakes, Ocean, Pools or Hot tubs.

  • Avoid all gardening or yard work.

  • Avoid chemicals and irritants, particularly fine mist type product on or around the area.

  • Avoid ANY makeup directly on treated area.

  • Do not tint, wax, thread or tweeze eyebrows.
